Aim: To study the Law of Inertia

Material: Penny,Cardboard,Beaker,

Procedure
  1. Take a glass beaker ad fill it up with half a way with water.
  2. Place the cardboard piece over the beaker opening.
  3. Place the penny  at the center of the Cardboard.
  4. Flick the cardboard with quick motion and observe it.

Observation
We observe that penny and the cardboard which was at rest first.  When a unbalanced force is applied the penny fall into the beaker ad cardboard move straight.

Explanation
The law of Inertia or First Law of Motion states that an object tends to stay at rest or in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The inertia resists the change in motion. In case of penny and cardboard, the inertia held it at same place while cardboard piece is in motion when it is flicked by an external unbalanced force.

Aim:  To study the presence of moisture in soil.

Materials: Soil samples, test tube, test tube holder, Spirit lamp, match stick box, spatula.

Procedure
  1.         .Take a dry test tube and hold it with a test tube holder.
  2.        .Take spatula and pour soil sample in it.
  3.      Heat the test tube containing soil sample over the spirit lamp by keeping it in slanting position. Observe the test tube after 10 minutes.

Observation
Water vapour can be seen in the inner walls of the test tube.

Explanation

Soil contains moisture in it. So when we heat the test tube over a flame the water from the soil evaporates and starts condensing in the cooler inner walls of the test tube. This shows the presence of water in soil.

Aim:To study the effect of dispersion of liquid (food colour) at different temperature using hot and cold water.

Materials: Two beaker, food colour, dropper, water.

Procedure
  1.      Take two beakers of equal size.
  2.          Fill the beaker with the same amount of water, one with cold and other with hot water.
  3.      Put one drop of food colour into both the beakers at same time.
  4.       Observe what happens to the food colour.

      Observation
In hot water the food colour disperses at faster rate that the cold water.

Explanation

In hot water,  with the increase in temperature intermolecular force between water molecules is weaken which makes it to spread apart  therefore the  dispersion or spreading of food colour is faster . While in cold water,  since the temperature is low the water molecules are held close together which makes the food colour to disperse at slower rate.

My Experience
It was a great experience. It has helped to know all three concept involving small activity  to learn in a short period of time.
